ACCESS Health International helped Tsinghua University Gerontology Center and The Beijing Bureau of China Insurance Regulatory Commission to arrange a five day study tour to Singapore in February. The purpose of the trip was to study long term care insurance programs offered via commercial and social mechanisms in Singapore. It was part of a feasibility study for long term care insurance in China.
The delegation, led by Prof. Pei Xiaomei, Executive Director of Tsinghua University Gerontology Cente, was composed of three researchers from Tsinghua University and Tsinghua Tongheng Urban Planning & Design Institute, one government official from CIRC and the CEO of Pinetree Care Group. ACCESS Health arranged various meetings for the delegation with its partners across the Singapore health insurance system spectrum, from government and academic institutes to private insurance and service providers.
During the tour, the delegation had the opportunity to have face to face interactions with and get firsthand information from policymakers, implementers, and beneficiaries. Through site visits at local agencies, the delegation had learnt much on the development of the long term care insurance in Singapore. The delegation also shared their knowledge and experience in China and ensured all parties benefited from the interesting exchange.
